Purple skirt
Hanging out with Charles. That boy is always staring me down.
This outfit felt extra fun and wintery while still pretty unexpected. I wore it for a casual day at work. The coolest thing about it is these leggings which are sparkly. It's hard to tell in the pictures, they look almost more like leather. Leather leggings would be pretty cool too. These could work as pants but not quite for daytime. I paired them with a skirt to make the whole thing more work appropriate.

Patriotic prepster
Jeans go to work today with stripes and a red headband for a preppy, semi-patriotic look.
Messy hair keeps it from looking too stuffy. I've been really into messing up my hair lately so I don't feel too prim and proper.

Knotted striped shirt
Another winter work outfit. Had a few meetings today. I love this green dress-to-skirt combo. Makes me wish it was just a skirt sometimes. Seriously, a high-waisted, brightly colored, swishy skirt would go great in my wardrobe. Till then, this dress can do the trick.
Hair was in a side ponytail, played up the messy-ness of second day hair.

Blue skirt
I wore this to work on an event day. It was for a sad occasion where the client requested the guests to not wear black, so this was my professional-looking-but-not-black-or-too-serious ensemble.
This skirt is actually a maxi dress, and has been so much more versatile than I expected. I bought it second hand. It originally had pleats, which I washed out. Oops. But, it works great as a long and voluminous skirt with the right sort of top + belt.
Hair is milkmaid braids. Takes a long time but always looks more complicated than it actually is!

Red dress
I wore this bright number to work today. Nothing like argyle tights to put you in a cheery mood!
Charles hung out while I took pictures.
Hair? Pinterest favorite, the sock bun!

Preppy / patterns
This dress is decidely summery but I persist in appropriating it for winter. I wore this to work on a day with meeting a client who I'd worked with before. For those meetings, I tend to get a bit more creative with my professional outfits. The layering here was a bit high maintenance (button down kept getting a bit unkempt underneath the strapless dress) but I liked it anyway.
Hair was a dutch braid on both sides, wrapped into a side bun.
Dress - J.Crew
Button Down - not sure, got in England a few years ago as my uniform for the National Railway Museum

Sweater Dress
Another pic from early December, for a weekend day hanging out and running errands.
I love the boots and the nordic patterned winter tights. This year, I've been on a hunt for more winter dresses, which are really hard to find. All summer, there is nothing but perfect, a-line sun dresses which nip and the waist and flow out in the most form flattering fashion (like my yellow, orange or green dress). However, come winter and it seems that all dresses are sweater dresses, which cling to every little bit of everything.
With losing a bit of weight, I've tried incorporating a few of these into my wardrobe. I found this one at a thrift store. I like the shorter length and the pleats. Honestly, I feel better about wearing this in real life than I do when I see it in pictures. The pictures make me think it didn't look so good after all. Hopefully, confidence and adorable boots make this still a good choice in real life.
Hair was second-day straightened and in a simply ponytail. Thanks to my mom for taking these pictures!
